In this episode of the Real Fast Spanish Tips Podcast, I share my thoughts on an idea I call ‘The Gap.’
The gap is something that affects all language students, I see it everywhere and in everyone. It is something that will cause you frustration unless you have a tactic for dealing with it. In this tip, I’ll explain what the gap is and how you can overcome it.
This episode is, in fact, a summary of a blog post I put together on the topic of the gap. I needed to share the idea in a blog post first because it is a difficult concept. And I didn’t want to do the idea a disservice.
Here is the original blog post: How to overcome the gap
The gap is something that has frustrated and affected me and I see that I am not the only one. I hope that with this episode you will have a better feel for the gap and how you can respond to it.
In this tip you will learn:
- What the gap is
- Why you should know about it
- What to do about it
Quote from this podcast episode:

Thank you for this post. You are spot on. I have thought of stopping my classes, but for some reason I keep going. I guess I am pushing the gap down. I will always come back to this for a reminder.
Thank you

I was so inspired by reading your post and listening to your podcast this morning that I wrote a brief summary with links to your article and podcast for my students. I teach people how to read hands. We’re always in the gap, too. There have been many, many times I was in the gap over the past 20 years of reading hands. Now, at last, I can name it and see how I did beat it, at times, and at times it beat me. Pero, no mas. Gracias Andrew. Ahora estoy preparada para la brecha en mi viaje aprendiendo a hablar espanol.

¡Muy bien! Thanks for the feedback Kay! 🙂 Yes, the gap is ever-present, the key is to learn to push forward despite the fact that the gap may always be there.
