In this episode of the Real Fast Spanish Tips Podcast you will hear about tactics for dealing with procrastination.
Procrastination can be a silent killer. If you have ever found yourself procrastinating then this will be holding you back. It could be stopping you from achieving your goals in Spanish. It could be slowing you down. If you want to tackle the problem of getting to a conversational level in Spanish then beating procrastination is an important part of the answer.
As I often say, mindset is so important for learning a second language. In the last mindset monday podcast, I gave away my best tactic for beating procrastination and it a little unconventional. I recommended that you listen to that tip before you listen to this one. But if you are familiar with what I talked about in that episode then have a listen to this one.
You will learn that if the distractions that you can control are a bit too tempting there are a few things you can put in place to deal with your wandering attention.
In this tip you will learn:
- A strange tactic for avoiding procrastination that didn’t work.
- Another tactic to do with breaking down big tasks.
- Can you start to become self aware?
- How Tony Robbins suggest overcoming procrastination.
- How do you associate pleasure and pain?
- What I associate with recording these podcasts.
Mentioned in this episode:
– Tony Robbins top rated TED talk: “Why we do what we do” – Well worth a watch!
Quote from this podcast episode:
“Procrastination is one of the most common ways to avoid pain. But usually if you delay taking action, you only create more pain for yourself later on.

Andrew,
Thank you so much for putting these online materials together. I started listening to your podcasts a year ago and it was the beginning of my foundation to learn Spanish. Due to my business and family needs, I was not able to continue, but your approach, especially related to this topic of finding what motivates me to learn Spanish and not let procrastination get between me and this goal left an impression on me.
I’m glad to say that I’m retiring from my business after 40 years. And I can recommit to pick up where I left off. I’ve committed to spending at least an hour a day memorizing the first 1,000 words and listening / reading materials on your website and podcasts. I’m making great progress and achieved memorizing the first 100 words today!
My goal is to become conversational starting with 10 minutes of conversation, then building to 30 minutes as you outlined. My wife of three years is from the state of Tabasco. We plan on leaving California and retiring to Merida, Mexico within a year. This is the motivation that will drive me and I promise not to fail with you by my side.
Over a year ago I paid for a one-on-one session with you that I never redeemed. Please consider that as payment for access to the free materials you have provided. At some point, I would like to explore taking some of your online courses.
Once again thank you very much for what you have already help me achieve and what I will achieve in the future. God bless you and your family.
Dave
