More often than not Spanish beginners don’t get the start in Spanish they need. I know I didn’t.
If you want to get good quickly you need to start by focusing on aspects of the language that get used the most. In Spanish there are thousands of words, but they are not all created equally. Some words get used far more often than others. If you want to get good quickly you need focus on the words that are the most useful.
If you want to find the words that are the most useful, you can think to the words that
you use everyday in English. It is overwhelming to think about how many words you know in English and then trying to convert those to another language. But, there are some words that you use far for often than others
Take that last paragraph as an example. The word ‘to’ got used 3 times, the word ‘the’ got used 3 times, the word ‘are’ got used twice etc. You get the point.
When I first started learning Spanish I spent a lot of time practicing words that I have never used. It is nice to know all of the months in the calendar year but they really don’t come up that much in conversation.
Once you have a good feel for the words that are useful you need to get them in your head. That means practising properly without distraction. High quality practice doesn’t have be hour upon hour, its simply a case of working out exactly what you want to achieve in a small burst, going to work and then moving on to the next lesson.
If you really want to crank up the rate of language acquisition you need to focus on practicing everyday. If practicing everyday is too hard then your aim should be as near to it as possible.
